TERRACOTTA ARMY

The Terracotta Army was accidentally discovered in 1974 by Chinese peasants who were digging a well. The uncovered figures of archers, generals, officials and physicians were kept in the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the founder of the Chinese empire and originator of the Great Wall. According to legends, the Terracotta Army was supposed to guard the emperor and help him in regaining his power in the afterlife. The warriors are life-sized and have individual features and faces. The army also has a cavalcade of 35 horses with chariots, cavalry horses or war chariots. The Terracotta Army was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987, and it is referred to as the eighth wonder of the world.
